While the specifications of the device are good enough to make this smart phone a good mid rang device, one need to remember that with some major disruptors in the market, such as the OnePlus 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 5. Moving up from a budget oriented segment, the ZenFone 3 is Asus’s attempt to capture the mid range segment, by positioning the primary model of the ZenFone 3 family of device.
Asus ZenFone 3 Features
1. Display
This smart phone packs a 5.5-inch IPS display that has a native resolution of 1080×1920 pixel. With a pixel density of 401 ppi and a brightness rating of 600nits, we were quite happy with the ZenFone 3’s color reproduction. However, wished there could have been a little more sharpness. At maximum brightness too, the color reproduction on the IPS display is good, and by virtue of being an IPS display, the viewing angles offered are very wide.
We used the blue light filter to increase the warmth of the display’s colors to read our saved articles late at night, and after a while it ease evident that at minimum brightness the Zenfone 3’s viewing angles could have been better. RATING: 6.6/10

2. Design
This mobile body and a metal rim sandwiched in between, the ZenFone 3 joins the band of mid rang smart phone such as the Honer 8 and the Mi 5 to incorporate a mix of build material for its construction. The glass is something worrisome as it tends to slip and doesn’t offer that great a grip, also contributed by the fact that the ZenFone 3, while retaining a standard 5.5 inch display size. Asus has slapped on 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass at the front and at the rear, both for protection and as a design element, and combined with the metallic sheen inside the glass. The device does draw a lot of retention.
Moving away from a circular design, the rectangular fingerprint scanner sits right below the camera and is very ergonomically position. The volume rocker and the power/standby button are on the right, and USB type C port and a speaker grille are at the bottom of the frame. The 3.5 mm port has been place on top. RATING: 6.7/10
3. Primary Camera
Asus has packed the ZenFone with a Sony IMX 298 sensor, which is the same as the OnePlus 3’s and the Xiaomi Mi 5’s but with claims of better image processing. In daylight, the images showed a very balanced color reproduction, with a lot of sharpness. In real life test and in our controlled camera quality test, the image sharpness levels, especially around the edge, went down a bit. The OIS works well, and so does the laser assisted PDAF, which is quick to respond. Lower the ISO and the noise level goes down. The OIS works well, and so does the laser assisted PDAF, which is quick to respond. We could get some better than average slow shutter images indoors as well. RATING: 7.1/10
4. Secondary Camera
The secondary camera unit on the ZenFone 3 is an 8 MP, f/2.0 unit which is surprisingly good in low light conditions. The lens is wide enough to fit most of your mates into the form of you are talking a group selfie, and all the traditional front camera modes such as filters and beauty mode are also available. RATING: 6.1/11
5. Performance
The processor, however, is constant across all variants, which is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip. This a little bit of a concern on the specifications front, because the Zenfone 3 is priced at a slight premium for its hardware configuration, and the next direct price competition is the OnePlus , which packs an 820 processor and 6 GB of RAM.

While the device could handle basic JPEG editing quite well, it struggled a lot with importing, rendering and subsequently exporting DNG RAW files. RATING: 6.0/10
6. Battery
Under the same conditions, we managed to get a PCMark rating of 6 hours and 3 min. The ZenFone 3 packs a 3000 mAh battery, with USB Type-C standard fast charging, which looks quite good if you consider the industry standards and other hardware details of this device. RATING: 7.1/10
