Huawei Honor 6X Full Features
We found the display touch accuracy and responsiveness to be great. The display brightness levels are adequate for indoors, but a little low for outdoors. You will have some difficulty in viewing the display in bright sunlight conditions, even with 100% brightness. The company has put in little display light and color adjustment features in phone’s Display settings.
Talking about the colour reproduction of the Honor 6X full-HD display, we found the colours to be a little over saturates. The ‘Colour temperature’ option allows you to adjustment features in phone’s Display settings. Lastly, there is an option to ‘increase readability under sunlight’, which essentially sharpens the text for user to read under direct light. Rating: 6.2/10
2. Primary Camera
The primary camera in the dual module is of 12-Megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor while the secondary camera is a 2-Megapixel shooter. The Honor 6X boasts of a dual-rear camera setup. In our test, we found the rear camera to a decent performer when it came to daylight or well-lit conditions. The two-camera setup will impress most of the users, but we felt it is more of a gimmick.
The camera features Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) with the f/0.95-f/16 wide aperture range, and is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps as well. The stoke camera app has got quite a bit of filters and features like ‘Time-lapse’, ‘Slow-mo’, ‘Document scan’, ‘Good food’ etc. Even in our standard lab test, we found the rear camera to be poor for low light, although well-lit subject could reproduce decent center sharpness and fiber detailing was decent too. Rating: 6.1/10
3. Secondary Camera
In our test, we found the selfie camera to be quite average. The Honor 6X an 8-Megapixel front-facing camera with 77 degree wide angle lens it can also record 1080p video, like the rear camera. Most of the shots were consistent, but low-light performance was much disappointing. The only redeeming quality is its screen flash (not LED flash), which helps a little in no light or dark conditions.
The shots were quite grainy even when there was good amount of artificial light. The stock camera app by default shoots in beauty mode. The ‘Perfect selfie’ mode is one of the extreme selfie feature in the app that maps your face form all side and delivers perfect touch-up including face thinning. You can also tweak the settings according to your need. Like most other camera apps, this too includes live filters for front camera as well. Rating: 6.2/10
4. Design & Build
The Honor 6X boasts of a premium design and feels solid in hands. It comes in the three colour options – Silver, Gold, and Grey. There are no touch capacitive buttons at the bottom of the display, Honor instead have it onscreen. The front 2.5D glass touches display work smooth. The 3.5mm headphone jack and primary microphone can be finding on the top edge. The Micro-USB port does support USB-OTG as well.
The notification, sensor module Proximity and Ambient light sensors, speaker grill, and the front-facing 8-Megapixel camera sits above the display. Upfront, the Honor 6X features a 5.5-inch full-HD 2.5D curved glass display. The volume rocker and power buttons are on the right edge, while the dual hybrid SIM tray is on the left. Overall, Honor has managed a decent overall design for the Honor 6X, which is premium and solid at the same time. Rating: 7.0/10
The Huawei Kirin 655 is an octa-core (4 x 2.1 GHz + 4 x 1.7 GHz) processor that comes in both variants of the Honor 6X. The Honor 6X is not powerful when it comes to performance. Multi-browser performance was average. The handset supports microSD expansion up to additional 128 GB, as well as USB on-the-go OTG. Our review device had 3 GB RAM combines with 32 GB of internal storage, although you will only get about 23 GB of free space on first boot because of the excessive amount of pre-loaded system apps and EMUI skin by the company. Rating: 5.3/10
6. Software & UI
The Honor 6X runs Emotion UI (EMUI) 4.1 skinned on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The Emotion UI by Huawei Honor is not very appealing and takes a bit to learn. The icons are not material design style but the transitions appear smooth. However, having said that it is still much better than Asus ZenUI or Vivo’s Fun Touch UI. The UI does not allow you to see drop down notifications when it is locks and there is no way to enable it as well. There were only two things that we appreciated in the UI were – the split screen mode and Wi-Fi to provide good internet throughout. The default Keyboard app on Honor 6X is Swift key, which is good. Rating: 5.9/10
7. Battery Life
The battery of Honor 6X lasted about 8 hours in our video loop test. The PCmark benchmark estimated the battery time to be 10 hours 21 Minutes, which is quite good as well. The Honor 6X packs a 3340 mAh non-removable Lithium-Ion battery, but it does not support fast charging. The Honor 6X went from 0 to 30 only in switch off mode and took a little more than 2 hours fully charges 100% the battery. In our review time, we used the handset with two SIM cards along with multiple email accounts, 5-6 social media apps, 1-2 hours of navigation, little bit of YouTube video and music streaming every day. We had no problems with the battery and it lasts a day without fail. Rating: 7.6/10
8. Call Quality
We mostly used the device with two SIM cards, but you can also use one SIM (Nano-SIM) along with a microSD card. The handset features two microphones. The primary mic is hides in the bottom left speaker grill and the secondary noise cancellation mic is located on the top edge. The earpiece speaker output was loud and clear. If you are looking to use a Jio SIM card then the Honor 6X will fine too. Call quality on Jio was excellent with HD calls. Rating: 7.8/10
